Avalara Recruiting Campaign
Avalara, a growing fintech company that provides tax compliance automation software, needed an awareness campaign to recruit software engineers and customer support team members in Seattle and Durham. We proposed two conceptual directions that sought to amplify Avalara’s vibrant company culture and differentiate the brand from its big-name competition (Amazon).

Concept 1: Meet the Avalarians
Our first concept was a celebration of Avalara’s quirky company culture as well as its unique attachment to the color orange. This loud and proud direction sought to quickly capture attention and attract the right type of candidate.
Concept 2: Break Free
Our second direction took a more provocative approach, employing wry, escapist humor to establish Avalara as a rewarding alternative to “big tech” companies known for being cutthroat, robotic and mindless — as we discovered during a deep dive into Amazon’s Glassdoor reviews.
